HTML confirmation emails - say thanks with style
Posted by David Greiner on November 20, 2007
Over the weekend we pushed a highly requested new feature live - HTML confirmation emails. It's now easy to send a nicely formatted HTML confirmation email to anyone who joins your list from your subscribe forms or via the API. To import the HTML creative for your confirmation email, you just need to provide us with the URL.

We'll grab the page, import all images and even externally linked CSS into a single email referencing the images on our servers. You can easily preview your HTML version once it's imported and make any changes that suit.
To improve deliverability and ensure the confirmation looks great for those who prefer plain text, you can also provide a basic plain text version of your confirmation email that will be included in the same email. We'll include a sample one to help get you started. If your new subscriber is using a plain text email client, they'll see that version instead.
To set up for own HTML confirmation email, head into your subscriber list and click on "Create a Subscribe Form" to get started.

This is so nice. We are using your api for a newsletter signup form on our home page and now we don't have to redirect to a landing page to confirm. Thanks!

Is it not possible to just have a HTML-editor where you can paste in you own HTML and edit etc.? I'm a bit worried about the sentence: "We'll grab the page, import all images and even externally linked CSS into a single email referencing the images on our servers."
I like to have full control of my templates and e-mail code and eventhough this is a great feature, I think it still needs a few tweaks.

Hi Mads, thanks for the feedback. The only reason we import your HTML, CSS and images is so we can reliably serve it to all recipients and ensure it will actually work for all email clients (such as pulling the CSS into the head of the document instead of referencing it externally). We don't actually change the way your email looks i any way.
Once you import it, you can preview it on the spot, and if you need to make any changes, re-import with a single-click.

that make sense. I never used your services but I think this is right time to try your app.

I also have to use mail build for my clients - would LOVE to see this in mailbuild, as I've been asked by those clients for it. It's a great feature.

Can I use personalization in the HTML and plaintext versions of my confirmation email?
I see that first/last/full name, email address, and the unsubscribe link are available. But will my custom fields work as well?

One more question. Can I use personalization in the subject line of my confirmation email?

Frances, you'll be pleased to know you can use personalization in both the body and subject line for confirmation emails.
Got anything to add?
