Need an endless necklace, how about toilet paper with instructions? Elsewares is a unique catalog of interesting products from independent designers, and their email newsletter does a great job of showing off their latest and greatest.

By removing any unwanted distractions and using large product images, the recipient can scan through the featured products in seconds. This is an important and often overlooked requirement of email design - your subscribers are busy too, make your email easy to scan.

  2. Gallery: Firewheel Design

See the complete email designA refreshingly simple text-based design from the always impressive folks at Firewheel Design that breaks away from the traditional multi-column format. By removing any distractions, the reader can dive straight into the content.

This approach also means that it won’t matter if the recipient has images turned off by default. A big plus if a lot of their subscriber use Gmail or newer versions of Outlook and Outlook Express.

Nice 2 column design promoting the latest work of the Sydney based design studio. The curved corners, subtle shadows and background gradients combine to provide a rich and easy to read email. It’s amazing the difference a little attention to detail can make.

Our only complaint, too much of the newsletter copy, including the unsubscribe link, was done with images. This means the newsletter is tough to read for subscribers who have images turned off by default.

We love the clean, minimal design in this email, especially the narrower than normal width. The large type for the introduction grabs the eye and the call to action effectively encourages the recipient to download the free report.

The colors used also look great and R.BIRD provides a good explanation of what the newsletter is all about. The email is also used to promote other similar reports and reinforce the creative offering of the organisation. All in all a successful email that the target audience would find extremely useful.

  5. Email Newsletter Design Gallery

A couple of weeks ago we noticed a real lack of good online resources showcasing excellent email newsletter design. It seems you guys agreed, so today we take great pleasure in launching the Email Newsletter Design Gallery.

Aimed at highlighting some of the great designs that pass through our software, we hope to provide you with a useful resource where you can discuss what you think works and doesn’t work in email design. Feel free to post your own thoughts on each concept, be it positive or negative, as long as it’s constructive.
