Update: Improved email address validation
This one was a long time coming. We've just updated our email address validation for your subscribe forms.
If someone tries to join your list but doesn't supply an email address or their email address is invalid, they will now see a simple error page explaining the problem with instructions on what they need to fix. Of course, you can still use your own error checking for your subscribe forms, but this one's there just in case.

@SATOsense Thanks! It does look like you’ve successfully added a link to that draft, but what happens if you try to add more now? ^SM

This is a great feature and have been waiting for this. No need for javascript error checking anymore.
What would be nice to see added with this feature is a message that tells a user they are already subscribed if they are already on a list they are trying to sign up for.

Hey Matt,
We decided against adding this for 2 reasons:
1) We didn’t see a lot of harm in someone re-subscribing. They’d still only apear in your list once and it just confirms their desire to receive emails from you.
2) We want to keep Campaign Monitor as private label as possible and adding this functionality would mean adding another potential situation where a subscriber could see our URL. We know this is very important for some of our customers.
What do you think? Does that make sense?

That makes sense,
I see your point about why its not a feature and I agree with what your saying about no harm in letting someone re-subscribe as it doesn’t really have an impact on the list itself anway.
Thanks for the response.

Regarding the private label as you address in reponse to Matt, is there any way to mask the URL of this error page? A quick test on one of my sites shows the error page generated directly from campaignmonitor.com

Hey Mark,
You’ve got a few options here:
1) Use your own client side error checking with JavaScript. This way the subscriber will never see our error page.
2) Use a frame or iframe to hide the redirect to our server so the URL stays on your server.
3) Use the Campaign Monitor API (launching in a day or 2… promise) to add the subscriber without ever touching our site.
Any of these methods will keep our URL from your subscribers.
