Web Directions South 2007 - a brief review

At 4:30am on last Thursday morning, the Freshview team were having seconds thoughts about this whole Web Directions idea. A few hours later though, with our booth setup and designers starting to appear, we knew it would be worthwhile.

We had arrived with 200 Campaign Monitor t-shirts and a new iMac to give away. The shirts had all been snapped up by lunch on Day 1, and we spotted people wearing them all through the conference centre.

Even noted standards guru and self-professed HTML email hater Lachlan Hunt dropped by, although too late to get an official shirt. So keen was he on winning the iMac that he agreed to make his own shirt and wear it for Day 2.

We managed to attend a few sessions on both days, and even catch up briefly with Microsoft's IE lead, Chris Wilson about the state of Outlook 2007 standards support, something we will be following up on.

It was great to meet a lot of you guys and girls, and you gave us some great suggestions that we've recorded for future reference. Also excellent was the chance to talk to a lot of people who had not heard of Campaign Monitor before. At the close of Day 2, Dave and Ben jumped up on stage for the drawing of the iMac - congratulations to Jason Foss, the subject of much jealousy from the assembled crowd.

  1. Great to catch up with you all at WDS - shame we didnt come in our t-shirts to win the iMac but it probably wouldn’t have done to collect our award in tees.

  2. Yeah - I had a few offers from people to “help me carry it out the door"… Really considerate bunch really! ;)

Thanks again guys for the prize!! Very sweet machine indeed.

  3. Thanks for the fantastic support guys - glad you had a good time - your stand rocked, and you well and truly added to the experience!
