Outpost
Designed by David Kaneda
This short and sweet announcement shows how effective email can be for marketing. Outpost is a new iPhone application that integrates with Basecamp to let you manage your projects while mobile.
The three different color bands separate the key information nicely, and the phone image make nice big click target, an excellent example of an image that adds more than visual interest. If you use Basecamp and have an iPhone, definitely check out Outpost.

I received this email and instantly purchased the app.. I wonder what the conversion rate of this (beautifully executed) campaign is so far.
The app is just what you’d hope for, sans a few features that are on their way.

Stig - So, so glad you like the app. The little good reviews we’ve had have been slightly overshadowed by a crashing bug affecting some users (working on now). If you get a chance, could you review on iTunes? Anyway, back to topic: It’s hard to measure the email to purchase conversion rate, but just in terms of stats, we have had 72% open rate and 55% click rate, which I do think is pretty good.
A couple interesting notes about the campaign:
* We sent early in the week, early in the day, to ensure as much “buzz” as possible
* Literally 10 minutes before I scheduled for delivery, I actually threw in the “Forward to a friend” link and converted two of the clickthrough’s to go to iTunes instead of the website—I think both worked in our favor.
Any other questions, please just let me know, thanks-
Stig

Hi David, thanks for your response, and for the insights on your campaign.
I’m sorry to hear bugs got in the way of the launch. Still, your 72% open rate and 55% click rate is impressive.
I’ll be sure to add a review, although my iTunes account is not for the US store. Good luck with further development and marketing!!
