Glasshouse Newsletter

Perhaps it's the high contrast black and white coloring, or maybe the bright rainbow in the header, possibly even the giant image of a playful one eyed monster. Whatever it is, something about this design jumped out at us and made us take a longer look.

We really loved the use of high contrasting colors, the black and white backgrounds with splashes of green in the images and the headings. The images used give everything a fun playful feel, but even with images off everything stays highly readable and still slickly designed. The unsubscribe link and text at the bottom is another great touch. Nicely casual with the understanding that people may want to unsubscribe and letting them know how they can easily resubscribe again in the future if they so choose.

As always, though, we would suggest watching out for those URLs used as link text to avoid phishing warnings and we'd also recommend converting the headings to plain text rather than images. It might lose a tiny bit of the playfulness of the design but it will add a bit more to the overall readability with images turned off.

  1. Given your reference to “the giant image of a playful one eyed monster”, I’m really glad you included the screenshot before the article text.

  2. Oh my, Mike…

The monster is so similar to the blue one in the new Monsters vs. Aliens movie that I expected a reference, but it seems not. Still, this is a gorgeous design, and very inspiring!

  3. I sincerly congratulate the designer who crated this wonderfull newsletter!

  4. Looks fun!

  5. Very beautiful illustration and newsletter, but it’s awfully hard to click through to anything from it - even their header isn’t linked to their website..!
