The Briny
Designed by Atalanta
This great looking Christmas letter from Ondine Restaurant chef Roy Brett by designers Atalanta is laid out across a 3 column grid in a most elegant manner. The simple and readable type is complemented by tasteful borders and flourishes, and the corn-colored quote really enlivens an otherwise restrained palette.
All up, this is a timeless design that would look just as elegant as a printed letter or flyer, but in many ways has been specifically designed for the inbox.

Really nice work!
Interesting that he hasn’t also felt the need to horizontally align each line of text in one column with a line of text in the column next to it as seems to be common practice nowadays.
Although that approach can give a very solid feel to a page, personally I don’t like it because it often leads to awkward and unnecessarily large gaps between paragraphs and is less flexible to dropping in larger pullout text as he’s done here.
Good work!

For super short text, this is nice. For anything longer, readability suffers. It’s unfortunate because I love magazine-designs—they’re just not very effective.
