Tri Nations at Emperor's Casino & Conference Centre, Johannesburg
After last year's successful inaugural Tri Nations Challenge in Perth Australia, Johannesburg assumed the role as the host for the second staging of the event with the Emperor's Palace Casino and Conference Centre providing a sensational backdrop.
The venue was quite simply the most outstanding of any bowls setting worldwide. It housed South Africa's largest indoor funfair – with its very own roller coaster, bumper car track and over 200 video arcade and simulator games plus much more.
On the casino side there were 1,700 gaming machines, over 70 gaming tables and private facilities for high rollers. Also incorporated were numerous restaurants catering for varying ethnic tastes and on a par with Potters – the Wembley of Bowls in the UK – a nightclub, theatre, beauty salon, swimming pool and the compulsory shops for those starved of retail therapy.
Played outdoors last year, this time the scene was set for an indoor event contested on the country's very first portable rink – supplied and constructed by Inbowls and Leisure Sports Surfaces which was given the nod of approval by all players – with eleven of the twelve players using Taylor bowls.

Colour Bowls Survey Results
We thought our subscribers might find the results of the (unscientific) poll conducted in the competition in our last eNewsletter of interest.
Just for fun, we asked entrants to name their favourite three Taylor bowls colours, and we were very pleasantly surprised that our newest colour – Maroon with Red Speckle – has come out as the favourite, and by no small margin!!
The ten colours, in order of popularity were:
1. Maroon with red speckle
2. Blue
3. Navy
4. Maroon
5. Turquoise
6. Red
7. Purple
8. Green
9. Yellow
10. Pink
Many thanks to all those that took part!

Vector VS – a Very Smart choice!
In recent years the Taylor Vector has consistently been the UK's most popular bowl, as well as a firm favourite in Australia and New Zealand.
The new Vector VS – 'Vector Sport' retains the winning Vector trajectory – ideal for fast surfaces and indoor greens. With attractive new sporty cosmetics, the Vector VS is easy to grip and a comfortable choice.

Champion Focus – Kelsey Cottrell
One of Taylor Bowls' youngest stars Kelsey Cottrell has retained the Australian Junior Singles title at the Halekulani Club in New South Wales.
The 16 year old from Queensland was the standout player of the tournament. She edged out Western Australia's Melissa Solly in a cracking singles final 21-19 after combining with Cassandra White to defeat Melissa and Natalie Solly 19-13 in an equally entertaining pairs match.
And then a week after fighting out a classic gold medal play-off at the Australian Junior Championships Cottrell and Solly were named in the Australian Junior Trans Tasman Test Team which will also go ahead at the Halekulani Club in Budgewoi over the 15th to 17th December.
Fifteen-year-old Solly plays her club bowls with Manning Memorial Bowling Club in Western Australia. She took up the sport just three years ago because her father, uncle and sister played, whilst Cottrell has already made her international debut at the open level at the Asia Pacific Bowls Championship in 2005.
Cottrell and Solly will join up with Queenslanders Ray Lanham and Brent Cheyne for the three day event. Cottrell and Lanham will play singles and Cheyne and Solly will combine in the mixed pairs.
Taylor Bowls Scottish Women's National Singles Championship
There will be a new name on this year's Taylor Bowls Women's National Singles trophy with Auchinleck's Claire Johnstone, Fiona Kerr from Lanarkshire, Fraserburgh's Irene Wilken and Jane Brooksby from Falkirk grabbing the four semi-final spots on offer for the Gala Finals week-end at Coatbridge 9th and 10th December.
The Championship was played to semi-final stage at Arbroath on 14th and 15th October.
