Thousands of retail companies around the world depend on Shopify’s multichannel e-commerce platform to generate revenue for their business by selling products online. And these same businesses rely on email marketing campaigns sent using Campaign Monitor to drive awareness and traffic to their Shopify storefronts.

Today, we’re thrilled to announce a new, free integration between Campaign Monitor and Shopify that enables marketers to send highly targeted email marketing campaigns that are guaranteed to increase online traffic back to their stores – and ultimately drive additional revenue.

Send smarter email with Campaign Monitor for Shopify

With Campaign Monitor for Shopify, you can seamlessly sync customer information and purchase history data to send smart, targeted email marketing campaigns. Once a customer makes a purchase, their information is captured in Shopify – such as their name, location, and spend – and immediately passed through to Campaign Monitor so you can send hyper-targeted email marketing campaigns using these data points.

Get started with pre-built segments

Research shows that personalized emails have 26% higher open rates. With this in mind, we’ve made sending personalized campaigns super intuitive by providing out-of-the-box, pre-built segments once you complete the simple 3-step process. We built these segments – big spenders, repeat customers, and more – because they fuel the kind of hyper-targeted messages that deliver ROI back to the business.

Set it and forget it

Whether you to choose to leverage the pre-built segments we provide or choose to create your own, you can start sending automated email campaigns that fire the moment your customer meets the segment criteria. These campaigns can consist of just one email, or build multiple emails in a series that “drip” at certain intervals, maybe once a week.

The ability to schedule these emails ahead of time provides a consistent delivery schedule and keeps subscribers engaged in a way that doesn’t require marketers to manually pull the trigger on individual emails each week.

Grow your email list with signup forms

The new integration also offers you a free, strategic way to increase the number of people who receive your email campaigns with out-of-the-box signup forms. Placing a subscribe opportunity on your website is a simple and effective way to turn your online store visitors into paying customers via targeted and timely email campaigns.

We offer four different types of forms – a lightbox, bar style for your header or footer, an embedded form, and a slide-out – that exactly match the branding of your store. While these signups may not necessarily be paying customers, you can convert them by sending them a welcome email with a special offer or set up an automated series of emails that are sent out over time.

Read on for four real-world examples of how you can send automated emails that will generate revenue for your retail business.

Shopify segments

Start sending today with these four email marketing campaigns

1. Entice your big spenders to spend more

Determine the threshold in which a customer become a “big spender” – say $500 – and the moment someone exceeds that amount, you can send a targeted campaign with an exclusive promotion.

2. Offer your repeat spenders something special

Recognize and reward customers that frequently purchase from your store with a special email-only offer.

3. Convert every signup from your website

The moment someone joins your email list, you can automatically send them a welcome email with a discount off their first purchase so they become paying customers more quickly.

4. Thank first-time customers

Turn first-time customers into repeat purchasers by thanking them in a personalized way.

Wrap up

All of these emails are incredibly simple to build with our out-of-the-box email templates and intuitive drag-and-drop email builder. You can set up the integration in less than 30 seconds, so go ahead and start using your Shopify data to automate your email marketing campaigns today!

It would be nice to have the ability to choose which list subscribers join via the lightbox/slideout form, rather than merge them with the Shopify customer list.

Subscribers and customers are two different things.

I send new subscribers a 10% off coupon as a thanks for joining, hoping to convert them to customers. If customers enter the same list, they’ll get that same coupon, but after they place that first order – not a super great experience, and likely to lead to a lot of support issues (“I just got a coupon, can you apply it retroactively?”).

I am eager to apply some of the more advanced re-marketing techniques you mention above to my customers, though, so that’s a nice feature.

Glad you two are working together – been waiting for my two favorite companies to partner!

Hey Dave, So happy to see your excitement regarding this integration.

We import all the data from Shopify in 1 list but segment that data based on custom fields (attributes). So *you can differentiate between store customers and newsletter subscribers*.

You can use the custom field “Shopify Signup Form” field to identify which of the contacts in your CM list are subscribers vis-a-vis which are customers.

I have shared 4 screenshots here:
    1. Shows the Shopify Signup Form custom field in the contacts detail page.
2 and 3. Show how you can create a segment to filter only subscribers
    4. Shows segments we automatically create for you when you connect Shopify and Campaign Monitor.

If you still have questions, feel free to email integrations@campaignmonitor.com and someone will reach out to you.
