We’ve just added a handful of new mobile email clients to our design and spam tests! That’s right, you can now view screenshots of how your email design displays on 5 popular handheld devices, all from the comfort of your Campaign Monitor account.

In addition to our extensive suite of desktop and webmail design tests, screenshots are now available for mobile email clients running on the following handsets:

  • Apple iPhone (OS 3)
  • BlackBerry 8900 Curve (OS 4.5)
  • Nokia N96 (Symbian S60)
  • Pocket PC (Windows Mobile 5)
  • Samsung Intrepid
    (Windows Mobile 6.5 Pro)

As you can guess, we’re especially pleased to add iPhone design testing to your account – complete with vertically scrolling screenshots!

With the iPhone on the rise, testing for mobile devices has become more important than ever. We reported an 128% increase in its usage during 2009, with no sign of slowing up. Amongst email clients, the iPhone has the fastest-growing market share, accounting for roughly 9-10% of recordable email client use overall.

Note that as both the iPhone and iPad use Webkit to render HTML email, you’re going to get a fairly consistent result across both devices.

Vertical scrolling, eh?

The mobile client screenshots (except Windows Mobile 5) allow you to scroll up and down, providing an expanded view of your email design:

With these new screenshots, you can also test out crafty CSS techniques for mobile like the @media query, without scrambling for your nearest handset:

Finally, we’d like to extend a big thank you to everyone who requested these mobile email client design tests. We hope you and your clients find them to be useful, regardless of whether you’re doing some hardcore mobile optimization, or simply want to show your boss a Blackberry-ized version of your newsletter. Stay tuned, as we’ll be announcing more improvements to the app shortly – who knows what you’ll find in your account next!
