Unsubscribe link not working or showing. What are the possible issues

I uploaded the HTML version for a confirmation email. I tested the forms and received confirmations in HTML and plain text. When the Welcome email is sent the unsubscribe tags are showing instead of an actual link.

i.e. <unsubscribe>unsubscribing</unsubscribe> and [unsubscribe] are showing instead of the actual links.

entire code for HTML follows:

Template 6 - Left Sidebar

Hi [firstname]

Thanks so much for subscribing to our eBulletin. It's currently under production, but as soon as its finished you will receive your free subscription. It will be filled with tons of great information about our business, upcoming events, and the ins and outs of consignment.

If you change your mind at any you can opt out of receiving emails from us by » <unsubscribe>unsubscribing.</unsubscribe>

The [firstname] tag works fine.

snapcridge :

» <unsubscribe>unsubscribing.</unsubscribe>.

The problem here seems to be caused by your editor converting the < and > characters into HTML character entities (&gt). You might need to edit the HTML source in a plain text editor and ensure your page isn't using these entities before you import it.

Okay I got that to work, but now when the email comes through and the unsubscribe link is clicked it takes me to a page that simply says Bad Request. I've posted the url below.
