Template question: Variable link to a determined image

I hope someone can help me as I have tried searching the forums and couldn't find any existing topics...

I'm aware of the tag to let the customer/client insert their own image and link:
<img src="<$imagesrc link='true'$>" width="200">

What I would like to do is let the client insert their own link to an existing and predetermined image. What want the customer to be able to change the link to an image button that reads "Register Online." Is this at all possible?

Here's a link to the email I am working on:

Hi ThisIsDannyZ,
this question has now been answered here, but in your case, I'd consider a different solution.

By adding a class for buttons in the CSS of your template, you can recreate the buttons in your email with a technique like this.

Then you just have to add the class to your links in the source view in the editor, and your button labels will be visible even when images are blocked.
