How CM calculates firstname and lastname

We've got various different name formats in our lists and I thought I'd post here for posterity how Campaign Monitor parses them for merging.

Bob & Jane Smith
yields first: Bob, last: Smith

J. Bob Smith
yields first: J., last: Smith

Bob Michael Smith
yields first: Bob, last: Smith

Bob Michael-Smith
yields first: Bob, last: Michael-Smith

Ho hum, not too exciting...

Yep,

As Alex has posted:

Basically it is [firstname] = the first word (before a space) and [lastname] is the last word (after a space). If you do need more control than that, custom fields are the way to go.
