The consensus on video embeded in HTML email

What is it? I've been doing a bunch of Googling and have not found much- mostly discussions of people asking how to do it, how well its supported, etc, but that never have a resolution.

My employer has given me the task to get video in an email, apparently regardless of how many people will actually be capable of seeing it. What's the best way to make this happen? I suggested just using an image that would link to the video deployed online, but this isn't a solution that they're willing to accept.

It's really not an option. The trick is convincing your employer. :)

I've been given the excact same task, and basically replied "that's not how we're gonna do it".

Then I linked a screenshot with a playbutton over it (and a text link, of course :) to a webpage with the video - pretty much like you already described.

Thanks stig, that's the impression I've been under. I received a few sample emails from, which are basically advertised as being bulletproof, but didn't work in any of the clients I tried. Awesome!

We've certainly never seen a working example, and Stig's suggestion is exactly what we recommend.
