Integrating with Act!

Client is considering using CM, wants to know whether it can integrate with their current CRM, ACT! Premium 2009. I am not a technical bod, but would this be possible only using the API, or by periodical exports between CM and ACT!? Or is it best left well alone. Also anyone in the UK who could assist with the technical side of this integration?
