I'm a french graphic designer, and I have sometimes trouble in html email rendering accented letters, particularly in Outlook and Entourage. Using html entities works, but I get some errors that doesn't exist on my original encoding. Look at this excerpt of my text when received in Entourage:
La pratique de la musique en &! eacute;quipe développe la synergie, la cohésion, l’écoute de l’autre et l’intelligence collective.
I don't understand why I get this extra "!" messing up the word "équipe", when all other accented letters in the same line (and the whole text) are fine... Curiously, this error is happening to some other word in Outlook, or not at all resending the mailing from the same server another day. Any ideas? (besides moving overseas and create only mailings in English, which would be fine with me by the way :-)
Does your email HTML include this in the <head> section?
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8">
This site may help for special characters such as yours: http://www.degraeve.com/reference/specialcharacters.php
Make sure your encoding is only visible from the HTML mode, eg:
HTML - Windows®
Output - Windows®
To answer Yonghokim, it's no. I'm sending out my mailings via a website built and hosted here http://en.wmaker.net/, they offer web services, and to do so I normally just have to use all the code inside the tags <body> and </body>. But I'm going to give this a try, include <head> tags with charset=ISO-8859-1 or UT-8F. I just hope it's not going to be stripped out by the sending system.
And I am also going to check the site mentioned by Fyredefyre.
Many thanks to both of you for your help.
