We have a list of approx 11,000 names that we have collected via offering contests and sweepstakes on our website. Many, many of the people who enter these contests use bogus and/or 'throwaway' email addresses and hence, do not open subsequent emails.
We are trying to clean up our distribution list and cull those who haven't opened any of our emails in, say, the last 3 months.
Is there a Campaign Monitor setting that will purge these email addresses automatically?
Thanks in advance for insight!
Bumping this request (client is getting restless!) - Mathew, is this a feature already within Campaign Monitor or could it be added to wish list? We had to go through all the 'unopened' email lists from the last 6 months to manually remove those who hadn't opened a single email. It would be a great feature to be able to 'clean up' subscriber lists!
There are a few steps you can take to ensure you only sent to those opening your campaigns, but there is one major drawback to this approach. We measure opens by including a small hidden image at the bottom of each email. As many as 10-15% of your recipients however could be viewing your emails with images disabled. This means that unless they click a link we never detect an open for them.
Further to this, we remove all invalid and hard bouncing addresses for you automatically, so every address on your list is in fact valid.
What you can do though is easily setup a segment that contains people who have opened at least one of your last x campaigns - that will give you a list of recently active people you can email to.
Ah - thanks for this info Mathew! I'll pass this on to my clients and recommend setting up the segment per your recommendation.
Question - is there any way to export this list (of people who opened at least one of our last x campaigns).
Appreciate the reply! :)
Yes, once you have the segment setup, you can use the export segment link to create a file with those names.
