Preference Center Link

I am trying to determine what the link to my client's preference page would be for their customers. On their website, they have a section about updating customer information for the mailing list.

Is the only way to obtain this link, sending an email so that their email address is tied?

Hi amandalucia,

The only way your client's subscribers can access the Campaign Monitor preference center is via the dynamic link that gets created when you use the <preferences> tag. The link is dynamically created for each subscriber in each email sent, so there is no 'one' link that you can pull out and use as a hard-coded link. It wouldn't work, I'm afraid.

There's also a problem with this method. I use the <preferences> tag in my email campaign and try and encourage subscribers to update their preferences. However the the campaign reports there is no record of the subscrubers that click on the link. This makes it difficult to monitor the activity. Please explain. Thanks

I'd just like to add to this agreeing with @fschlomka

It'd be really really really handy if Campaigns tracked the Preferences link click activity so that:

a) You could target it through Segments (Specific Link clicked)
b) See it on the Email Overlay

We recently sent a 'cleanse' campaign out asking people to update their information as a bit of a Spring Clean. We were hoping to filter the results of this campaign to another Segment so that when we send a follow up campaign, we can exclude those who have already clicked on their Preference Center, but there doesn't seem to be any mechanism in place to do this yet.

If this was to be implemented, would it be then possible to filter based on those who open the Preference Center and then those who updated their profile?

On the same train of thought, currently if a Subscriber unsubscribes through the Preference Center, does that display in the Reports as an Unsubscribe?

I'd gladly add a +1 vote on the "Track the preference centre's link's click" features. I posted a question about that somewhere (ah! here: http://www.campaignmonitor.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=4012).

I understand the complexity of tracking dynamic link (since one link requires a static, trackable version). I know it can still be done by passing some parameters... thought I admit I'm not familiar with the preference centre infrastructure (In fact, I just noticed I don't provide a link to it in my latest template!! Doh!!).

Hi guys,

This is a request we get from time to time. I've added your votes to the ticket in our system, thanks.

Sweet, thanks.

Any response to this question though:

On the same train of thought, currently if a Subscriber unsubscribes through the Preference Center, does that display in the Reports as an Unsubscribe?

Davida, please add some votes for me too - I need Preference Centre visits to be tracked.

Hi there Jeremyb, no problem at all - I'll add your vote for this and keep you posted if it's something we add at a later date. Thank you!

brendo - I believe this is the case. Sorry we didn't see your question all that time ago :/

I've just been told by support that "a click on a Preference Center link wouldn't result in an open being tracked either". That's a little silly isn't it? You need all the help you can get determining open rates!

Jeremyb, I agree, it is a bit odd - we'll certainly look into what we can do about this and will keep you updated if it's something we change. Sorry!

Hi guys - I'm guessing from my reports that CM is still not tracking the preference center link?
We've got a welcome email that encourages people to "complete their profile" and so far showing no activity on this link... but then realised a couple of people have actually done it.

Is this on the horizon?

Hey there ed, you're right - we don't track the preference center link at present, but it's something we've had a few votes in favour of. While we don't have a timeline for this update, I'll give this issue a bump on your behalf and let you know if it's something we add at a later date. Sorry for the trouble!
