I sent a campaign based on a CM template on Jan 12th to 118 recipients, only 23% were opened (all within the first few days) Approximately 50 of the recipients were branch email addresses of one company and none of them were opened. The test campaign passed the spam and browser tests.
I thought maybe the company filtered incoming emails before routing to each branch but then at least one would have been opened?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Hi Martin, welcome to the forums! Your open rate can be affected by a number of factors, notably the vertical you're sending to, the relationship you have with your subscribers and even the email client your subscribers are using. We have a great article on open rates which you should take a look at, which goes into some depth on why open rates can seem low and how they can be potentially improved.
In short, an open rate between 20 - 40% is considered average and shouldn't be relied upon as the sole metric to rate the success of your campaign. Please let us know if we can assist further with interpreting your campaign results - we're always happy to take a look at your campaigns, too!
yeah, I agree. I sent newsletters to around 1000+ people. I standard open rate is 34%. The lowest one has been 23% and the highest one is 44% (i was super excited with that one!).
I got over the fact that some people will delete the message right away, or not open it at all
Also keep in mind that not every open can be recorded so the true open rate could be a bit higher.
Thanks guys, I appreciate your comments and suggestions. I'm sure that the one company I sent about 50 shots to different branches must have some blocking system because I would have thought at least oone would open it.

I average about 35% open rate and from what I understand by talking to other people that's about the norm.
If you get over 40% you're doing extremely well.
I haven't seen anyone mentioning which opens you're using, Unique or Total...???
In our reports we use unique opens as our metric. A unique open rate of 20-40% is considered normal :)
