When coding email blasts, what are the general advantages/disadvantages of coding text as html rather than using an image that displays the text?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
The biggest advantage to using text wherever possible is to maintain a high text to image ratio. Many (most?) spam filters are very reluctant to pass along an image only email.
That's a great point Paul, and there's also a number of email clients that block all images by default. So for most recipients, keeping most of the text as live HTML text will provide a better experience.
The main advantages I can think of with inserting text as images, is that certain designs are easier (or only possible) to achieve that way. In most cases it's worth putting in the extra effort to code it as formatted text though.
