I've noticed a few spam-bots starting to attack the CM forums recently - might it be an idea to introduce some form of CAPTCHA (or equivalant) on the forum registration? As that last one could easily have gotten me in trouble if anyone here was looking at my monitor! :)
I was going to say the same thing - now that stuff is in my traffic reports (granted I control access to them, but still.)
And I mainly stay up to date using the RSS feeds with full posts on so it just shows up on my home page when I open my browser. Not good...
I just had to unsubscribe from the RSS feeds because of all the porn...hopefully I'll remember to check back on the forums to participate.
aognenoff and Stormy, we're just as annoyed about this as you guys and are working on blocking these nasty spam bots today. I'll post an update here the moment this is done.
We've made some changes to the forum backend to try to prevent the spam bots hitting us, and we hope that will do the trick. We'll let it go for a while and see if anything pops up. If it does, then we have a few other techniques we can try.
No dodgy messages in the last 24 hours, so things are looking good so far, but we will certainly keep a close watch on it.
Indeed it seems to be going well, good work and thanks!
