Does anyone know what exactly the new facebook messaging is about?
Does this mean that we'll have a new emailclient to test in?
Hi wilbertheinen, great to see you've been keeping abreast of the news here. From what I can see, Facebook Messages looks like it's really geared towards short-form messaging (as you can imagine from a platform that unifies regular FB messages and SMS), so at present, we don't think it's going to capable of handling anything other than plain-text (if early screenshots are anything to go by). A full-blown email client it ain't.
We will keep an eye on it.
I've got my own @facebook.com e-mail adress and I did some tests. The only problems I encountered is that the linkcolor is overwritten and a text-decoration: underline is added by facebook. The rest seems to be OK. The preview is a txt-version and via 'unfold' you can view the txt or html e-mail in a popup screen.
It looks like facebook is removing the styles from the head and the body and overwriting the inline styles on links.
You can use <font color="#......">...</font> within the <a href="">...</a> to change the linkcolor in facebook to the color you want, but the text-decoration stays in the color defined by facebook. So it's a little bit better, but not a 100% solution.
Hi wilbertheinen, many thanks for the great info here! FYI, we've just published a blog post on designing email campaigns for Facebook Messages - it looks like you've stumbled across most of the CSS quirks already, but this article may be of interest to you. Thanks again for your help! :D
