According to the instructions on this page, I have done all I need to do by assigning a width value to the image...
Here is what my image code looks like:
<img src="<$imagesrc link='true'$>" align="left" alt="Sample" width="200" style="padding-right: 10px; padding-bottom: 10px;" />
And here is the example given on the Complete List of Campaign Monitor Tags page at the above URL:
<img src="<$imagesrc link='true' default='image.jpg'$>" width="200">

Could you use CSS in this instance as a belt and braces approach?
Could you clarify what actually happens? It certainly should be working, but we'd need to see exactly what is happening for you to investigate further.
