We want to run a contest for our subscribers to encourage our 25k subscribers to update their preferences to tell us some segmentation information, as about 30% joined the list before we'd added all the custom fields and refined our email plan.
The idea was to enter everyone who updated their details during a given period into a prize draw, but I'm struggling to work out how we'd track this, as clicks on the Preference Centre link in an email don't appear to be tracked.
Has anyone else done something similar? Am I being totally dumb?

Hi catreenie, that's a good question and totally not dumb at all. Clicks to the preference center are certainly one thing we can't track, but the bigger issue here is monitoring who actually updates their email address during a given period (which you can't see in our subscriber lists).
My advice is to use a 3rd party app like Wufoo to host your 'update your email address' form. Wufoo integrates with Campaign Monitor while also holding on to form data on their end, meaning that you can not only update your subscriber list, but later pull data from Wufoo itself (including date/time that email addresses were added). You can also carry personalization over to Wufoo to pre-fill their forms.
