Unsubscribes

Hiya. With the "custom unsubscribe" page - is it possible to give the user the ability to unsubscribe from multiple lists? We have a large database of customers that have subscribed to receive different lists. It's possible that when their job changes, they might not want to receive mailing from one of the lists. Can we, via a custom unsubscribe page, give them the option to choose which lists they're unsubscribing from? If not, is there another way to do this?

Additionally, what happens if we hold email address abc@yahoo.com on our list but that forwards to myhomeemail@yahoo.com, and that person wants to unsubscribe? Who gets unsubscribed? I only ask as myhomeemail@yahool.com might exist elsewhere on our list.... and we'd want to make sure they were removed too but our list is only aware of abc@yahoo.com (phew - mouth full!)

If someone unsubscribes from our list and then informs us they want to get back on them, would marking them as subscribed in the admin area be enough to get them back on our list? I note the help files says that CM remembers them forever and the only way to get them back on the subscription list is through subscribing on the website.....

Not at present - it's unlikely that we'll be changing our unsubscribe process from a single-click one, I'm sorry to say.

In this scenario, you can either change your unsubscribe settings so all unsubscribes are removed from the list they originated from only, or use custom fields and segments to allow subscribers to state their email preferences via the subscribe form and preference center. In the latter case, you can send targeted email campaigns to segments and instead of unsubscribing from your lists, your subscribers can have the option of selecting which segments they want to be part of. It's a little more work on your part, but in this case, may be worth it.

Additionally, what happens if we hold email address abc@yahoo.com on our list but that forwards to myhomeemail@yahoo.com, and that person wants to unsubscribe?

In this case, abc@yahoo.com is unsubscribed. If myhomeemail@yahoo.com is also on the list, they it will continue to receive emails. If a campaign was sent out, both email addresses would receive email, so it would be a matter of clicking 'unsubscribe' on both of the emails received in myhomeemail@yahoo.com's inbox :)

If someone unsubscribes from our list and then informs us they want to get back on them, would marking them as subscribed in the admin area be enough to get them back on our list?

You would have to remove them from your suppression list to get them back on your list. Once this is done, we'll 'forget' they unsubscribed :) Just make sure they're set as active, not unsubscribed.

Thanks, Kas! Hope this has helped :)
