add a LinkedIn share button

Anybody know how to add a linkedin share button to a newsletter? Twitter and Facebook are easy enough with the tags, but I don't see one for LinkeIn.

roshodgekiss roshodgekiss, 4 years ago

Hi tjh1965, thanks for your interest in this - at present we don't have social sharing tags for LinkedIn and unfortunately, LinkedIn's supplied share buttons use JavaScript, so can't be embedded in an email campaign.

That said, I'll happy add your vote internally for this and keep you posted if it's something we add in a future update. Thanks again!

Hi Ros
We also would like the LinkedIn share button please. It's available on other emailing platforms and is fairly mission-critical to many of our clients.
Kind regards
Nick

Hi Nick, thanks for your feedback here and sorry about this shortcoming of ours. I've noted your interest in this and will let you know if it's something we add. Thanks again!

I would also love to see a share on LinkedIn tag when this becomes possible!

roshodgekiss roshodgekiss, 4 years ago

Thanks signarture - we'll certainly keep you posted on this one. Either that, or we find a good workaround soon!

I just examined the linkedin link that mailchimp uses; it's pretty simple:
http://www.linkedin.com/shareArticle?mini=true&url=[add your URL-encoded webversion URL here]

Like extramile said above, linkedin is fairly mission critical to some of my clients. It's important to remember that while not as exciting as twitter or facebook, linkedin is the only 'safe-enough' social media platform for many b2b or otherwise conservative, non-retail clients.

Hey andjules, thank you so much for this code! I'll be sure to test this out soon. Happy to give LinkedIn sharing a nudge for you on this end, as it certainly would be a good thing to have.

Glad to know the linkedin button is being worked on, as this one is more important than facebook and twitter our primarily B2B audience.

Barbara Pilgrim, 4 years ago

Yes, I would like to be able to add Linked In to the top bar too.

Hi mburgess and Barbara Pilgrim, thank you for adding your votes here. I'll be sure to let you know if it's something we add to a future release.

Another vote please. Two clients asking for this.

andjules code is correct and can include

http://www.linkedin.com/shareArticle?mini=true&url=[webversion]&title=[campaign subject]&summary=[summary description]&source=[source website]

What would be even nicer is if you would allow us to use the web version url like a personalisation field so we can construct our own share buttons (amongst other uses), e.g. [webversion].

roshodgekiss roshodgekiss, 4 years ago

Hi njsmk, I've added your vote, many thanks! It is possible to use [webversion] tag to create your own share links, for example, here's a very basic share link for Pinterest:

<a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/create/button/?url=[webversion]">Pin this</a>

I hope this makes sense - I'll let you know too if we make it easy to add LinkedIn share buttons, too :)

I just got pinged by a client checking to see if there was any news on this front, thought I'd pass it on. Perhaps I should also ask, does njsmk's code above work for making your own share link? I haven't tried it yet, and am always a little nervous about testing out things that might throw the results up on a social media site....

davecoleman, 3 years ago

I add my vote for LinkedIn share links too.

roshodgekiss roshodgekiss, 3 years ago

Hey there PMcKern, I can confirm that njsmk's LinkedIn code above works. Perhaps you can create a test LinkedIn account if you'd like to double-check the results.

davecoleman - thank you so much for your vote for this, we'll be sure to keep you posted if it's something we add :)

Hi all
I’m having requests on this too and have implemented the code above. This doesn’t turn out quite as expected, instead it spits out:

[campaign subject] and [summary description]

any ideas?

roshodgekiss roshodgekiss, 3 years ago

Hi emilbabin, unlike [webversion], the other values above like [campaign subject] and [summary description] aren't currently-supported Campaign Monitor template tags. In order to make this work, you will have to manually add these values yourself with the help of a URL encoder, eg.

http://www.linkedin.com/shareArticle?mini=true&url=[webversion]&title=The%20subject%20of%20my%20campaign...

I hope this makes sense - of course, I'm happy to add your vote for this internally :)
