My question is about HTML5 video tag in email. It doesn't work in Firefox, and on BlackBerry and on Android. On Android, it shows controls but it doesn't play when pressed. Now, I did this based on Ross Hodgekiss's post on video tag...I don't understand one thing: her fallback link links only to the location, not to a particular file. I don't understand that so I linked mine to HTML file...Anyway, any help/advise is appreciated. Below is my code. I abbreviated the links because they are on the company server...

Hi Karate Kid, welcome to the forums! It's Ros here - just to clarify, the fallback displays in situations where video is not supported. In these situations, it's preferable to link to a landing page where the video is hosted, however you can link directly to a video, or resource that's hosted somewhere and viewable in a browser. So yes, what you've done here is totally okay.

Code might look good but it's not working. I am focusing on getting this to work on mobile. How is this code supposed to act on BBerry and Android? What is your recommended fallback video file type? I am using here HTML file that reads the SWF file, both are hosted online. That did not work. And I also tried an MP4, hosted on our server, and that's not working either.

As per the post you linked to, either the fallback content is displayed, or the video doesn't play at all. At the time of testing, I couldn't get video to play on either of these devices within the email client.
What is your recommended fallback video file type?
In this context, the fallback is either text or video, linking to a version that can be viewed in the browser. You can either link to your webversion (the supplied code should allow for playback in many browsers), or link to a page with .mp4 / .webm / .ogv similarly embedded. For more info on formats, check out this post.
Given the amount of work involved in providing multiple versions, you may just want to host your video on YouTube / Wistia / Vimeo and link to that.

Unfortunately, Flash in email won't work, at least in most situations. You will need to host more than an mp4 file for maximum support.
What's "hinted" mean?
The best description I could find was in this tutorial. The skinny is: "For QuickTime Streaming, you must add what's called a "hint track" which is a small track embedded alongside the audio and video tracks. The hint tracks tell the server how to "package" media data for the network. "
The bottom line is that video support in email is all over the shop - by no means can we guarantee playback in any email client. It also requires a lot of hard work to achieve limited results, so ultimately, it may be better to do like these guys and link to a web-hosted version instead, either hosted on your server, or more conveniently, YouTube, Wistia, Vimeo or similar.
