Hi hoping for some clarification on where to start... A client has asked me to enable subscriber imports from their ticketing system called SABO to their CM list.
Can this be done by beginner PHP dev (me) or should I go look for a proper developer?
I haven't spoken to this clients software company yet which will be my first port of call, I hope it can be done by me giving them the info they need to send the info to the CM list from their system - or am I dreaming?
Anyone out there who has done this by reading the CM API documentation when they were beginners?
Hi Frederikke, thank you for posting. As it's really hard to gauge your level of skill (I've met some pretty talented 'beginners'), we can't really say whether this is an appropriate task. That said, you should consider:
- whether you've had previous experience working with an API
- if you're confident that you can work with the client's ticketing system (as well as our API)
- whether it's worth the time/effort/responsibility taking on a professional coding task, while learning on the job
As a fellow beginner-level coder (which is true, I have laughable JS skills), point 3 is a big deal for me - is my time better spent doing my regular job, when an experienced coder could bust out a solution in a fraction of the time? One could argue that I'd be better off learning in my own time, then taking on projects when I'm classed as intermediate, or beyond.
Ultimately, the decision is up to you and I'd love to hear how your project turns out. Thanks, Frederikke! All the best :D
