PURLs

Hi I have a client that would like to send out a campaign with PURLs with custom landing pages.  We have never done this and was wonder if anyone have any recommendations of software or a service that we can use.  Thanks

Hi pellinore, welcome to the forums. I assume your client wants to sent up a URL that redirects to another page - this can be set up either via your domain registrar (for top-level redirects, ie. abcwidgets.com.au --> abcwidgets.com), or by setting up an .htaccess file on your server (ie. abcwidgets.com --> abcwidgets.com/ourproducts/index.html). Neither requires software or a service, just a little web know-how. You may consider engaging a web developer/designer to assist with this.

You may want to look at our post on ways to use custom fields for pointers on how you can generate personalized links to your landing pages.

Thanks, pellinore! Let us know how you go.

Thanks for the reply, no they want each individual to have it's own unique landing page.  So abcwidgets.com/JohnDoe, abcwidgets.com/JaneDoe. There is a bunch of software and services out there and just was asking anyone could recommend one.

Hi Pellinore,

I stumbled upon your comment looking for something else. We have a purl marketing service that can be used with CampaignMonitor to generate unique personalized URLs and also manage a dynamic landing page or microsite.

Check out http://www.purlHub.com. Pricing is similar to CM. You just upload your list, generate purls, then export the new list as your email file. You'll have to use a custom field for the purl link, and then use the personalization tag for that field to insert the unique link for each contact.

For personalizing the landing page, purlHub uses a JavaScipt API, which is basically a snippet of code, like Google Analytics, that you add to the landing page. Then, you can use some simple CSS tags to insert field data, pre-populate forms, etc. A web developer can also use the API to do advanced personalization.

Hope that helps.
