Why would client have another domain to send through?

We've recently signed up a new client and it looks like their old email marketing system supplier had them use another email address for their email marketing. I don't understand why this would be the case - do you ?

Thanks.

Hi kas2, good to hear from you. Could you kindly elaborate on what you mean by another email address, eg. a From: address? I can only imagine this would happen if the old supplier had set up a domain (ie. something@customdomain.com) and wasn't willing to hand it over. Or were accessing this email address for one reason or another.

These are just guesses, but if you have any more details, let us know - very curious!

One of our clients recently moved away from Campaign Monitor to EmailVision (gawd help 'em it's awful but they were bamboozled by an enthusastic salesperson!) - and EmailVision use different email addresses - they make you delegate a whole subdomain to them and then the email addresses for the marketing are something like newsletter@marketing.domainname.com - I think they do it all for sender and IP reputation purposes...

Cheers djwhisky, I hadn't thought of that! Thanks for sharing, that makes loads of sense... But i can imagine that it must be puzzling for clients when moving away from the ESP..!
