Retrieving "Old" Email Address

I'm a FileMaker developer, working on a so-far very successful CM integration project for a client.  There is, however, a missing (or well-hidden) feature from the API...

When a subscriber changes their email address, I can't find a way to retrieve their "old" address, so I can locate their record in my client's database.  Ideally, the API would return a unique ID for each subscriber, rather than relying on their email address, which is subject to change.

I'm guessing the CM subscriber ID isn't available to the API.

My workaround is to use a custom field in CM with the record ID of the linked subscriber in the FileMaker Database, and search for this custom field, rather than the email address.
