Is it possible to use a Custom field as a unique identifier?

Hi,

Is it possible to have a custom field set to be a unique identifier?

We have an internal database that uses a unique code to intentify each record.

When we import records someones email address might of changed so we want to update that record using our our own unique key.

E.g.
Key: 1234
Email: test@test.com

Key: 1234
Email: different@test.com

The above record would be updated instead of being added as a new record.

Hi lcgs, welcome to the forums. At present, it isn't possible to have a unique identifier that's independent of email address, I'm sorry to say. Happy to add this request for you internally and let you know if it's added to a future release, as it's something we may look into in the future.

To add to Ros's suggestion, if you are maintaining your lists of subscribers somewhere off the campaign monitor system, it is possible to use our API to update a subscriber, including a change of email address. Doing so would permit you to make changes in your system and ours simultaneously, meaning you wouldn't need to use a separate unique identifier.

Hi Phil,

Once our database updates the email address it no longer remembers what the old address was. How will we be able to use the API to update the record in Campaign monitor when we are required to provide the email address (old) one to update?
