We would like some assistance with creating segments out of an existing mailing list. We want to separate about 100 addresses and create a (country based) segment. We have the list (cvs) of the addresses from a different application, but cannot figure out a way with the segment variables options to separate these out of the Main List.
Should we try to import the list? All the addresses will be recognised as exisiting.....or will they (also) be marked as new subscribers, in which case we could you one of the segment variables...
Appreciate your assistance.
OK, for help with segments see http://www.campaignmonitor.com/blog/archives/2007/02/creating_and_using_segments.html - basically, if you have a custom field with the country in it, you can easily create rules like "where country = australia" to create segments from your list.
Importing into your existing list will replace the existing custom fields and name field with the new ones provided, so that will be fine.
there is no custom field available for country. Importing the names into the existing list, as the list we have contains only the email addresses, will it replace or just update the existing data?
Will the latter give us the solution of creating the segment from the variable of most recently subscribed?
I've contacted you directly via email, but for the benefit of others, you need to actually create the custom field yourself, define the possible values, and then import your list with the countries. Campaign Monitor will just update the records with the custom fields you import.
Can a country list be an pre-built option within the Manage Custom fields - every time a client wants a country dropdown in their subscribe form I go bananas creating the fields!!!!! aghhhhhh
