A lot of people are not receiving the sign-up confirmation email and are unable to subscribe to the list. It's not that they're just not clicking the URL. We've confirmed that a number of mail clients are blocking the confirmation email.
Our client was very concerned about this, especially since their own mail server is one of the ones blocking the emails, so we ended up switching to a single opt-in list. However, there are currently more than 300 people stuck on the unconfirmed list. I can't move them. I can't delete them. They're not receiving the confirmation email. If they sign up again now that it's single opt in, they're still not moved from the unconfirmed list to the subscriber list.
This is a problem. Why can't I simply delete them from the unconfirmed list so they can re-subscribe?
Hey there lhutton, we're sorry for this rather tricky situation. The justification for not being able to delete/set as active unconfirmed subscribers is that this can defeat the purpose of having a confirmed opt-in list, ala one that everyone has consented to joining.
I'm happy to add your vote to make it possible to either contact, or manually confirm subscribers who are in this unconfirmed limbo. We'll keep you posted if this is something we add in a future update.
In the interim, it's probably best to have a message prompting subscribers to check their junk mail for a confirmation email if they've signed up previously.
Sorry about this lhutton - this is something we'll certainly look at improving in the future.
I understand that manually moving people from "Unconfirmed" to "Subscriber" might defeat the purpose of having a confirmed opt-in list. But what about when the list has been changed to a single opt-in? We're no longer requiring a confirmation, but those people still can't opt-in to confirm their subscription. If they try and sign up again, when a confirmation is not required, they still aren't added to the subscriber list.
Asking subscribers to check their junk mail is useless, because systems like Postini are blocking the email before it even reaches their junk mail.
All I want to do is REMOVE people from the Unconfirmed list so they can resubscribe on their own now that the list is a single opt-in.
If you drop us a line via support, we can certainly help you out under those circumstances, and also look into why people can't add themselves once the list is single opt-in - they should definitely be able to do that.
