Mandrill like functionality?

Hi guys,

Been using CM happily for a year or two now, but I'm really missing one thing: The ability to send one-off e-mails using my existing templates. Things like order confirmations, event reminders etc. - we're running these things outside CM now, but it would really be great to consolidate all our outgoing e-mail for branding purposes.

Basically, I'm looking for something like Mailchimps Mandrill offering: http://mandrill.com/

Of course we could create lists and campaigns on the fly but that seems overly complicated just to send a single transactional mail.

We'd be happy to pay for this, just like autoresponders, and I'm thinking, that with the autoresponder mechanism in place it shouldn't be impossible to achive this?

Just a simple API call - sendEmail(opts) ...hint, hint ;o)

Hi webclaus, thank you so much for bringing this up - we've been looking at transactional email with interest. Admittedly, to do this properly would require a little more than an API call, it would require us really investigating a whole new product. The sort of processes behind maintaining great deliverability etc are quite different, so please forgive us for not being able to bolt this on straight away :)

That said, we'll keep you posted if it's something we add to our service. In the interim, our friends at Postmark may also be worth a look :)

Hi there Samuel, we don't have any concrete plans to start a transactional email service at present, I'm sorry to say. By all means, we'll let you know if it's on our radar.

Out of interest, what are you looking for in a service like this? We'd love to get more details so we can make any potential service as relevant to you as possible. Thanks for your help with this!

Here is a simple solution using CM. The steps below are not finely detailed, but will get you sending out Transactional emails easily.

Create a new List. Give it a custom field, name anything (no spaces), data type is "date", required. You can also create other custom field data that is needed to complete your CM template. Next create an Auto Responder with send date rules based on the custom fields date. Build your template etc.

Access the API using your choice wrapper. When sending the required data (full name, email) to the list, include in the custom field name with the date you want it sent. Include other custom field data if necessary. Good Luck!

What kinds of transactional emails can be sent using this technique? For notifying users to update card info, when a transaction occurs and so on?

Here is a simple solution using CM. The steps below are not finely detailed, but will get you sending out Transactional emails easily.

Downsides to this are that it: a) requires a degree of experience with APIs and b) our subscription-based model means that recipients can unsubscribe - which isn't ideal when sending invoices and the like.

Not trying to burst anyone's bubble, just letting folks know what's involved in sending one-off emails using our service :)

So what you're saying is it's "not" impossible to achieve a transactional email functionality but it's tedious on the part of the coding requirements, am I correct?
