Moving subscribers from one 'list' to another...

Is there any way to do this within Campaign Monitor without having to export various lists, shuffle things around offline then reimport?

It would be nice if you could just select a bunch of people then "Move to X" or "Move to new". Find it surprising that this functionality either doesn't exist or isn't clearly visible!

Hi graphicgoose, thank you for bringing this up - we don't make it possible to move subscribers between lists from within the app at present, I'm sorry to say. From an internal point of view, swapping subscribers between lists does start making things confusing from a permission point-of-view. Also, many situations that require subscribers to be moved around can often be overcome using segments, instead.

Nonetheless, it does get requested a bit, so happy to add your vote for this internally. Out of interest, what kind of scenarios usually require moving subscribers between lists for you?

I'm not entirely sure what segments are - so I should probably look into that. But for example, we've come back from an event, we used your lovely iPad app Enlist and had a nice chunk of subscribers while we were away. These were all added to our 'main' list. Now we want to send out a welcome email to those newer people specifically regarding the event without sending it out to everyone else on the list.

Hope that makes sense!

Hi graphicgoose - that makes plenty of sense. Segments may be very useful in this case, as they allow you to target subscribers without creating new lists (which is better for cleanliness, especially if you're on a monthly plan). In this case, you could likely create a segment based on 'Date subscribed' (with the date = event date), then send your welcome email to these people specifically.

Also, using autoresponders may come in handy in the future. Let us know if we can clarify anything here :)

I also have this problem. I have the same subscribers on multiple lists because they may need different information at different times. Campaign Monitor supports this well because you can select which lists you want to be exposed to different content in your email campaign.

Where the same person appears on multiple lists, the email will be sent to the subscriber once. This is a good thing because you don't want to spam the person. But how do you know which version of the campaign they will receive? So your recipient might appear on 'List A' and 'List B', where List B includes all content of List A but also some extra, and you wish for them to receive the content for 'List B'... yet for some reason they receive the content for 'List A'.

It doesn't look as though segments can help, because these are defined on particular rules depending on information that the subscriber database already holds. Besides, if I simply merged subscribers into one master list, I would lose their history where they appear on multiple lists.

Any suggestions gratefully received!

Cheers
Lachlan
