Autoresponder Dillema

Hi, I need to solve the following scenario and need your advise.

I have prospects coming to my signup form. On the form, I would like to have an option for them (either 'drop down' or 'radio button') to select whether they are a buyer or a seller.

Whichever choice that they select, I would like them to be added to my CM's respective list of 'buyer' or 'seller' and the respective autoresponder for the list is triggered.

Can you please let me know the simplest way to do this as I have zero technical knowledge.

Thanks.

Assuming the API is too technical for you (it sure is for me) my only suggestion would be to have 2 separate forms - one for buyers, one for sellers.

You can have the appropriate calls to action on your site. E.G. Button that says 'Seller? Click here to sign up for blah blah blah.... and sell more than you've ever sold before' and you can have custom field options too.

I hope this helps.

Hi razorgrade and Kris2, another option is to use custom fields - for example, creating a 'Multiple Option (can only use one)' field will give you the option of building a form with a drop-down list. This will make things a bit easier for subscribers to keep updated via the preference center and will prevent duplicate email addresses across multiple lists, too.

Once you're using custom fields, then you can setup personalized autoresponders, or use segments to send newsletter-style campaigns.

Let me know if you need any of the above clarified here, it's a pleasure to help :)

Can you have different images in personalised auto responders?

Hi there, it's possible if you use custom field data. For example, you could do something like...

Interests = gewgaws

<p>Great to see you're interested in [interests, fallback=things]!</p>
<img src="http://yourdomain.com/images/[interests,fallback=things].jpg" />

We have a blog post on personalized images that you may find of interest. The techniques work in both regular campaigns and autoresponders :)

I'm still trying to sweet talk a Dev into helping me with daisy chain, but I guess that couldn't work?

I've run into a similar case/scenario/issue, and wondering if you can clarify something for me (sorry if I'm thread hijacking here): What if I only want to start up an AutoReply chain for those that has selected one of the subscription options? Ie. I only want to send AutoReplies to those who select "Buyer", not those selecting "Seller".

As far as I can tell, you can't setup AutoReplies for segments of a list (that would be a neat feature though), nor can you create an AutoReply "trigger" for anything but a date field.

Is there any smart way to accomplish this?
(I have no problems working with the API, although I'd rather not :-))

Best regards,
Soeren S.

Kris2 - Not at present, I'm sorry to say - there's only the custom field value and a fallback. Can I possibly add a vote on your behalf for additional fallbacks, or something else?

SoerenS - Ah, this is something we've had a lot of requests for - autoresponders based on custom fields/segments. Sadly, we don't have this capability just yet, but it's a likely candidate for a future update. For now, you will have to do something fancy with our API to accomplish this, aargh, sorry!

Don't worry, you're more than welcome to comment here :D

Go ahead and add a vote from me on this feature then :-)

I may have dreamed up a temporary solution last night. Let me try to describe it, in case anyone else needs something similar (requires some coding though):

What we have is a "License" Custom Field on our subscribers. Values can be something like "Free", "Standard" or "Pro". We want to start up different chains if you've got a "Free" or "Standard" license, and no chains for "Pro"'s (it's a bit simplified here, our structure is actually a bit more complex).

What I dreamt up last night was, what if I add 3 new Custom Fields of type date called "FreeDate", "StandardDate" and "ProDate", indicating at which date the subscriber got the corresponding license. Now I can create AutoResponder chains checking for each of those dates. And of course I also have to develop some logic for when a subscriber moves from one license type to another.

Input on this is more than welcome. But I'll go ahead and try to code something based on this, will let you know if it solves the problem.

Vote added. And thank you for sharing your workaround here, it's very useful! Best of luck, SoerenS!

One quick question, will save me a bit of coding / testing if you can answer this for me:

If I reset the date field (in the above mentioned solution) will the AutoReply chain stop?

I'm working on doing this in a very transparent way. As in, informing the user that this is message x of y in a chain, and give them the option to stop the chain without doing a total unsubscribe.

Hi SoerenS, when you change the date value in a date field, then any autoresponders based on this date field will be immediately impacted. For example, lets say you send an email 2 weeks, then 4 weeks after the FreeDate. If that FreeDate value changes (say, to today's date), then you'd expect the 1st email in 2 weeks from now, then another, 4 weeks later, even if those emails have been sent previously. So effectively, you could stop the chain by changing the date to one that doesn't fit into any of your autoresponders' criteria (like, a date 5 weeks ago). Does this help?

Please add another vote for autoresponders based on list values and segments. I thought that was already an option, and now need to go take back what I've been saying to some clients about it. Could've sworn there were more options for triggering them than just subscription and dates.

roshodgekiss roshodgekiss, 3 years ago

Absolutely, PMcKern - I've just added a vote for you. Sorry we didn't make this clearer!

Please add my vote to have autoresponders added as an option to segments.  We'd like to create specific autoresponder segments based on a custom field selection.

Hi rm2upaul, I've added your vote for this and will keep you posted if it's something we add. Thanks for letting us know!

Great thread and info! Would the itduzzit.com web hooks be a solution for razorgrade?

Hi there, while I don't know much about razorgrade, ItDuzzit is a pretty good service for setting up WebHooks. That said, I can vouch for Zapier - they have a very responsive support team and are always happy to help with integrations questions :)
