If I have the same email address in multiple lists and send a campaign to these lists, how is it determined which address will receive the email and which will be de-duped?
Hi Dave, this is an excellent question! Apologies in advance for the less excellent answer to follow - in short, it's a bit of a crap shoot as to which list is selected.
If a customer sends a campaign to multiple lists and a single email address features across these lists, its known that only one email will be sent to that address. However, what's less clear is which of the lists is selected for the task.
How our system selects an email/list combo in this scenario is rather vague. Effectively, the system chucks everyone in a bag and then starts sorting. First, duplicates are identified. Then, based on what personalization is required in the campaign, the duplicate email addresses are compared and the email address selected is the first picked that fits the personalization criteria.
If the email address is consequently unsubscribed, our app will remove the email address from all of the lists they are on, regardless of the unsubscribe settings for those lists.
Thanks, Dave - I wish we could be a bit more clear on this one. If we come up with a more concrete way of determining which email address is picked, we'll be sure to let you know :P
