Is less now more?

Just wanted to find out the opinions of some other awesome email people on the topic of automatic/transactional emails and the design of them.

I've noticed that a lot of companies/services are resorting to less designed emails, with the usual graphics, headers, etc with their automatic emails. So, say their welcome emails and other informational ones.

What do you guys think? Is this a trend going forward and something that's proven to perform better than say an email that is more visual rather than text based? I guess the major plus with this is compatibility with mobile devices, and well all devices and platforms - it looks smart on everything.

about simple and less design, it belong to their concept. the point is we get a good CTR from which design we use.
