Best day/time to send an email?

I'm sending out the first of my company's new monthly newsletter, and we're trying to pick a good day to send out the mailer. Since it's going to be monthly, I'm thinking that a few days to a week before the first of the month will be the best date, but I'm wondering about time of day. My first instinct is to send it in the middle of the night, so that it's waiting for East Coasters (and everyone else) first thing in the morning. While I have more mail to compete with, I imagine most people set aside some time to go through the morning collection of bacon.

Any thoughts, input?

In a good way,

There's been lots of different opinions on this one - do you want to be caught in the morning spam deletion, the post lunch is likely to depend a lot on the type of content and peoples expectations for your newsletter.
