Is it allowed to do this: [IF:Field1] [Field2] [ENDIF] ?

If not, how can do do the equivalent of that?

If Field 1 exists then use Field 1, otherwise use Field2.

If it IS allowed, why doesn't this work?

Merge:

=cm-name=[if:First-NameGoldMine][First-NameGoldMine][else][firstname][endif]&cm-f-bkiidy=[Sendinfowrittenfora]

Results  (the [IF]   doesn't "execute"

=...     &cm-name=[if:First-NameGoldMine]FirstNameGM[else]clay[endif]&cm-f-bkiidy=&cm-f-bkiidj=&

The fields merge but the IF THEN doesn't work

I just exported the list, made the changes in a spreadsheet and updated again.
