The email creation tool is cool and all, but it's kind of restrictive (in terms of design/options) and I feel like we could really sell our clients custom templates that can pull in dynamic content.....
Is this is just a pipe dream?
Making our email builder more powerful and more flexible is a big priority here - we'd love to hear more about what you'd like to see, and what sort of dynamic content you mean.
What i'd really like to be able to do is give my clients the ability to customise the content within the templates we've built for them.
In your dynamic template builder, when the customer uses it to send an email they can click a little cog icon (to the right of the element they've added to the page... I call these repeaters) and then select which recipient (either an entire list or a segment) sees that content. We'd like that functionality for the templates we build :) Like, really like it!
Mathew, will this feature be added at any time to the template system? It really shouldn't be restricted to just the generic email builder.
This would be extremely powerful for custom templates outside the scope of the built-in builder.
I have done quite a bit of work with the data repeater and RSS feeds in the bespoke template editor, but I feel there is SO much more that could be done... like:
- giving clients the ability to pull in content automatically and then edit the version that goes out in the newsletter - making it an easy way to populate the newsletter
- with the above, allowing re-ordering of feed items
- allow datarepeaters to be mixed in with regular repeater layouts
- and of course nested repeaters :)
I've already logged all these as feature requests quite a while back. It seems the CM team are more concerned with the new Canvas editor than the old bespoke editor which hasn't had an update in a long time - which is a shame as I have very strong use cases for it with my clients.
I agree that a high priority would be giving clients the option to customize template content, especially as goatlady mentioned, when importing automatically and editing before sending a newsletter. But my question would be does one have the ability to databind nested repeaters?
