I'm looking at the free CM templates, specifically this one:
And I noticed the image is floated right. I know MS Outlook '07 doesn't support floats, but CM says all their templates are tested and work in MS Outlook '07.
Also, the image has a CSS generated borders, which also aren't supported.
Yes, with our templates we were not trying to get everything 100% the same in every client, but instead to create something which held together well and yet remained flexible enough to edit.
In the same way, they don't use inline styles although Gmail requires them. The idea was to provide designers with a base they could work from, and in combination with http://www.campaignmonitor.com/css guides modify to suit their particular needs.
That does mean that you need to do some work with them still, but it is a bit of a balance between "really close but inflexible" and "flexible but not 100%".
