I am new to this forum - hello everyone!
I use Campaign Monitor chiefly to announce exhibits at my gallery; we encourage visitors to visit our website to manually subscribe themselves to our e-mail list.
Obviously, we add contacts ourselves as well.
One thing I would REALLY like to be able to do with Campaign Monitor is be able to tell who is adding themselves through our website's subscribe form.
I can't seem to find anything through CM's interface that indicates this - is this a lost cause?? There HAS to be some way to obtain this information.. I am willing to do whatever is takes to figure it out.
You can achieve this by adding a custom field to track the source of your visitor then manually update it when you add subscribers yourself and use a hidden form field on your subscribe form to track those. Doing it that way you can actually get a little more granular than your original question - ie: Source: Gallery Night 1, Gallery Night 2, Web Site Self Subscribe, etc. Basically whatever you want to track.
aegenoff is both helpful and correct! That's exactly how we would suggest doing it. Then you can even get smart with your segments too, and send different emails to people who signed up at an event than to those who signed up online.
You can also personalize your permission reminder when you have this information.
Thank you SO much! I could have thought of this - what a great idea!
