Outlook 2007 HTML Email rendering issue, extra space above table img

I have a very annoying problem with this HTML email that I've been working on for way too long.  In IE6, this is a common problem when using tables and images.  There is an extra space above an image that is unexplainable.  Usually, this is solved by putting the /td tag on the same line as the img tag but when looking at outlook 2007, this doesn't seem to fix the problem.  I have even tried removing all of the whitespace entirely.

I cannot duplicate the problem in IE6, 7 or 8 but only in outlook 2007.  I've uploaded everything to my public server so you should be able to just throw the code into an html file and email it.  Please let me know if you have any advice.

No Whitespace code:

<html><head></head><body><table width="585" align="center" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0"><tr><td width="585" bgcolor="red">asdalakda</td></tr><tr><td width="585" height="63" valign="top"><img width="585" height="63" style="display:block;margin:0px;padding:0px;" src="http://www.areyouemo.com/content/images/emailImages/common/common_bottom.png"/></td></tr><table></body></html>

Regular spacing code:

<html>

<head>
</head>

<body>
    <table width="585" align="center" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">
        <tr>
            <td width="585" bgcolor="red">asdalakda</td>
        </tr>
        <tr>
            <td width="585" height="63" valign="top"><img width="585" height="63" style="display:block;margin:0px;padding:0px;" src="http://www.areyouemo.com/content/images/emailImages/common/common_bottom.png"/></td>
        </tr>
    <table>
</body>

</html>

Also, attached is an image of the problem.  Thanks in advance for your help.

Hey johnkpaul,

This may be a forehead-slapping moment, but you didn't close your table correctly. Needs to be a </table> there. It actually took me quite a bit of testing before I noticed, once I closed it, the space went away in my Outlook 07.

:)  Thank you!!  My god, I stared at that code forever and didn't see that!.  Why on earth not closing that tag causes the space, I'll never understand.  Thanks again.
